“Curly Bill” Dye, the pilot with the most flying hours in Torpedo Eight and the lowest rank, was promoted to Lieutenant in September, 1943. His wartime assignments included service with Composite Air Squadrons 41 and 34. Promoted to Lieutenant, he retired from the navy in 1946.
